Raymond L. Slagle, 78, of Westville, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in Valparaiso. He was born September 13, 1933 in Valparaiso to Richard and Georgia (Jones) Slagle. Ray is survived by his wife Malinda (Hershman) Slagle, his daughters, Toy (Roger) Elliott, Jacqueline (Keith) Grusak, and Crystal Schroeder, all of Union Mills, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving him are three sister, Judy Aquilera, Sandy Biggs, and Rita Stevens, three brothers, Robert, Donald, and Doug Rowland. Preceding Ray in death are his parents, his stepfather William Rowland, his brothers Richard “Bud” Slagle and Ronald Rowland; and his great grandson Brayden Bracken. Ray was a member of Local 81 Laborer’s Union in Valparaiso from which he retired after 32 years of service. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. Funeral services will be at 12 Noon on Friday, March 30th at the Newhard Funeral Home in Westville. Pastor Ryan Jackson will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the family.
