Jane Melnik of Jackson Township, Indiana passed away with her family at her side on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Legacy-Avalon Springs in Valparaiso, Indiana after a courageous battle with influenza, pneumonia, and a 10 year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Jane was born April 14, 1937 in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania to Nelson and Ruth Hamel, both deceased.  She was married to Emil Melnik on July 10, 1956 who survives along with three children, Janice (Mark) Jackson, Scott (Thaddis) Melnik and Cathy Melnik, three grandchildren Jonathan Melnik, and Eric and Elizabeth Jackson. Her sister Joan Kinley of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania and her brother John (Sheila) Hamel of Bergen, New York also survive her. Jane was a homemaker, an avid golfer, and a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps 1955-1956.  Per Jane’s wishes there will be no visitation or services.  Jane will be cremated and laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery.  Arrangements by Newhard Funeral Home Westville Chapel in Westville, Indiana. A celebration of life will be held with immediate family at a later date.
