John W. Piper, 83, of Westville, passed away on August 13, 2016 in LaPorte.  He was born on December 15, 1932 in Kouts, to Walter and Emma (Herring) Piper. 

John served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, and also worked as an automotive mechanic.  He retired from the Indiana State Prison where he worked as a garage supervisor for 15 ½ years.  In his spare time John enjoyed his Ham Radio (KB9UA) and was a member of the Michigan City Gun Club. 

He is survived by children, Ronda (Rob) Zimmerman of Georgia and Shelly (Wayne) Phillips of Clinton.  John is also survived by; his siblings Marvin (Mary) Piper and Karen Miller, 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son Aaron D. Piper and his sister Dorothy Mates. 

Visitation for John will be on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Newhard Funeral Home in Westville.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 1:00 PM at Newhard Funeral Home.  Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
