Mary Jane (Pullin) Carpenter

Mary Jane Carpenter 80, of LaPorte passed away Monday, December 3, 2018 in LaPorte.  She was born March 31, 1938 in South Bend, Indiana to Roger and Catharine (Cummings) Pullin.  On March 5, 1960 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Union Mills, she married Phillip Carpenter who passed away April 16, 2016.  Mary Jane is survived by her daughter Wendy (John) Beehler of Union Mills, her son K.C. Carpenter of Hanna, four grandchildren Cody (Sarah) Beehler, Brenden, Brayden and Broc Carpenter. Also surviving her are her brothers-in-law Gene Henderson of LaPorte, Gilbert Gilchrist of Rolling Prairie, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister Margaret Henderson. Mary Jane was a member of the Door Village United Methodist Church where she, with her husband, had been very active with the youth group there.  She was a retired RN, previously working for the E Street Hospital, the I Street Medical Clinic and Dr. Kelsey’s office. She also worked with Meals on Wheels, volunteered with Hospice at LaPorte Hospital, was a mentor at Handley School and was on the Door Village Fair Building Committee. A memorial service will be at 11:30 AM on Friday, December 7th at the Door Village United Methodist Church. Pastors Robert Denney, Gene Flickinger, and John Beehler will officiate. Visitation with her family will be from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the New Day Foundation, P.O. Box 13, LaPorte, IN 46352-0013. Newhard Funeral Home in Westville is in charge of arrangements. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff and CNAs at Brentwood in LaPorte, her caregiver Mari Edd Smutzer and Dunes Hospice.
