Mary Grott Obituary

Mary Lou Grott, 88 of Wanatah, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 in Valparaiso. She was born November 6, 1930 in LaPorte. Her parents were William P. and Hattie Estelle (VanWinkle) McKellar. On March 26, 1950 she married John F. Grott who survives. Also surviving her are her children Mark (Barbara) Grott of Hanna, Kathy Grott of Wanatah; four grandchildren Lindsey Grott Sample, Johnathan Grott, Sr., Nick Grott and Michelle Larson; seven great grandchildren Kyle, Kaleb, Meagan, Jonathan, Jr., Gracie, Justin and Logan. Her basset hound Lucy also survives her. Mary was preceded in death by her son John E. Grott and her parents. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah. Before retiring she was a secretary for the American Dental Association in LaPorte and later South Central Elementary School in Union Mills in addition to running the family farm with her husband John. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 28th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah. Rev. David Gosnell and Rev. Jerry Schweitzer con-celebrating. Burial will be private at Patton Cemetery in LaPorte. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM on Thursday until the time of mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Newhard Funeral Home in Westville is in charge of arrangements.
