Bette (Mangus) Wakeman

Bette Wakeman passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2023 in Bradenton, FL. She was born on July 13, 1929, to Charles & Iva Mae Mangus, in LaPorte, IN. She is survived by her son Jerry (Linda) Wakeman, her brother Roger (Sharon) Mangus, 4 Grandchildren - Melissa Wakeman, Marcie (Jeff) Hackman, Catherine (Matt) Anderson, and Chad (Michelle) Wakeman. Also survived by 6 Great-Grandchildren - Avery, Maddison, Kinley, Taylor, Luke, and Brayden, brother-in-law Wesley Heironimus, sister-in-law Penny Mangus and many loving nieces & nephews. Bette was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Richard Wakeman, she is also predeceased by six siblings and their spouses – Harold (Florence) Mangus, Lloyd Mangus, Doris Shelley, Robert Mangus, Roland (Patricia) Mangus and Lucille Heironimus. Bette was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church of Union Mills and the Union Mills American Legion. She was involved with “Saving the Mill Pond” and then the “Mill Pond Festival.” She and her husband Rich were “Senior Citizens of the Year” through the Lions Club of Union Mills. She was known for her Indy 500 parties and Euchre card games. She also loved to walk outdoors and do puzzles. But mostly she was known for her love of family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 4pm Sunday, July 9th at the Union Mills Cemetery. Followed by a Celebration of Life at 5pm at the Union Mills American Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel Presbyterian Church of Union Mills.
