Betty Lou (Canham) Swarthout

Betty Lou Swarthout, 66 of St. John, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021. She was born October 17, 1954 in East Chicago, the daughter of John LeRoy and Pauline Delores (Chiti) Canham. Betty was a homemaker and a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in St. John. On May 19, 1979 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Griffith she married Terrance A. Swarthout, who survives in St. John. Also surviving are her grandchildren, McKenzi and Jaden, great grandson, Brantley, her sister, Diane (Lamar) Stofko of Glendale, AZ and brother, John (Theresa) Canham of Highland. She was preceded in death by her daughter Erin M. Keith, her parents and sisters, Sharon Newhard and Margie Kozup. Visitation for Betty will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021, 2 to 8 PM, with a Prayer Service at 5:30 PM at Elmwood Funeral Chapel, 11300 W. 97th Lane, St. John, IN. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 1, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, 9330 Wicker Avenue, St. John, IN. Burial will be in Memory Lane Cemetery, in Schererville, IN. Memorial Donations may be made to the Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior Avenue, Munster, IN 46321.
