Gwendolyn R. (Piper) Watkins

Gwendolyn R. Watkins, 86, of LaPorte, passed away on February 26, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family.  She was born on March 18, 1935 in Valparaiso, IN., to Stanley and Bernice (Falkenthal) Piper who both preceded her in death.  Gwen worked as a jailor at the LaPorte County Jail before retiring.  She thoroughly enjoyed spending her time with her grandchildren and tending to her flower beds. She married Quintin O’Brien who also preceded her in death.  Later in life she married George Watkins Sr..  Gwen is survived by her two children Geni (John) Hisick of Laporte and George Watkins Jr. of Westville.  She is also survived by her sister Delores Newcome of Chesterton and 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her brother James Piper.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from 3:00 – 7:00 PM, at Newhard Funeral Home in Westville.  A funeral will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at Newhard Funeral Home with Father Jerry Schwietzer officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Dunes Hospice.
