John William Coulter, who lived to help others, passed away on November 13, 2020, at age 56. A lifelong farmer and resident of Westville, John provided years of service to his community and the environment as a member of the La Porte County Row Crop, Soil and Water Conservation District, and Drainage Board. John was an active member of Door Village United Methodist Church where he proudly served as a trustee for many years. He drew purpose in life by touching the hearts of all around him through daily acts of kindness. John was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Marks Bechinski, whose passing taught him to end every phone call with “I love you.” He is survived by his father and mother, John and Jean Coulter; his two brothers, Mark (Stacey) Coulter and Michael (Char) Coulter; and two step brothers, Steve (Liz) Bechinski and Jeff (Sheila) Bechinski. John was the father of three children: Kurt (Alex) Coulter, Greg Coulter, and Dana (Blake Miller) Coulter; and two grandchildren: Matthew and Emma Coulter, whom he loved to spend time with the most. Arrangements have been made to celebrate John, however the family understands that we distance ourselves now so everyone can come together when it is safe to do so. The visitation on Thursday evening has been cancelled at the families request. Friday a graveside service will be held at Westville Cemetery at approximately 10:45. Masks will be required at both the visitation and graveside service. Memorials can be made to the New Day Foundation (The New Day Foundation, P.O. Box 13, La Porte, IN 46352) as well as through daily acts of kindness. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
