Peter John Lanenga was born August 10, 1939 to Peter and Martha (Venhuizen) Lanenga in Chicago. He was baptized and made a profession of faith in the Christian Reformed Church. Peter was a member of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Valparaiso, Indiana. He attended and graduated from Timothy Christian High School in 1958.
Peter served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964 stationed at Ft. Belvair, Virginia. While stationed at Ft. Belvair, Virginia he met his wife Arlene Dykstra. They married February 29, 1964 and moved back to Chicago when Peter was honorably discharged from the Army in April of 1964.
He worked his career in the Plumbing and Heating Supply Business in Chicago, Michigan City and Benton Harbor, Michigan. They moved to the Westville area in 1994.
His hobbies were latch hook, reading, computer games, and caring for his pets. He is survived by his wife Arlene of 57 years, three nephews and five nieces and their spouses. Peter is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Martha Lanenga, stepmother Marie, all three sisters and their spouses; Ann and Robert Ribbens, Mathilda and Henry Bos, and Lawrence Wierema, Hermina and Raymond Michelin, 4 nephews and one niece.
Services will be 3:00 PM on Sunday March 28th at the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 1901 Evans Ave. in Valparaiso. Pastor Andrew Gretzinger will officiate. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM until the time of the service at the church on Sunday. Burial will take place on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Mount Auburn Cemetery, 4101 Oak Park Avenue, Stickney, IL 60402. Memorials can be made to the Hebron Colony Ministries, Inc. 356 Old Turnpike Rd., Boone, NC 28607 or the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. Newhard Funeral Home in Westville is in charge of arrangements.
