Jimmy D. Byers, 80, of Westville, passed away on January, 6 , 2017, in Valparaiso. He was born on January 17, 1936 in Culver to Charles “Bud” and Brenda Evelyn (Hardesty) Byers. On August 1, 1970 in Westville, he married Susannah Pizarek. Jimmy worked as a correctional officer at the Westville Correctional Center in Westville. He also volunteered at the Westville Fire Department, coached little league, volunteered as an athletic booster and served on the Westville Town Council. He is survived by his two children Jean Smeltzer of Union Mills and Thomas Smeltzer of Bristol. He is also survived by his brother Charlie Byers and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Patrick Smeltzer, and brother Ted Byers. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January, 14, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM CST at Newhard Funeral Home in Westville. A funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Middlebury. Pastor Mike Eddy officiating.
